According to Hindu dharma, positioning a God idol in one’s home is believed to be a dharmik and aadhyatmik karya. It is believed that the placing of god’s idols, photos or figures in the home brings positive energy, peace and harmony in a home.

Choose the right direction

The flow of energy in the house is directly associated with the direction in which God’s idol is placed in the home. The right direction to place God’s idols is in the northeast or east direction according to Vastu Shastra. It helps in bringing good energy and positive vibes to the household.

It is believed that the placement of the God idol in the home also matters. It is advisable to place the god’s idols in the pooja ghar, as this is known to be the purest room in the house. There are homes where there is no dedicated prayer room; instead, they prefer a clean, calm and peaceful corner of the house to place their idol. But it is very important to maintain and clean the idols and keep them free from dust and dirt.

Choose the right height 

Many people don’t believe this fact but the height at which the God statue is positioned also plays an important role in bringing peace and prosperity to the home. Astrologically it is said that the idol should not be placed too high or too low. Therefore, it is suggested to place the idol at your eye level, to induce a feeling of equality and balance. There’s a reason for not placing the idol too high, because it is reasoned to be overpowering, on the other hand, if it is placed too low, it is said to be ungracious.

Choose the right material

The material from which the Murtis (idol) is made also plays a crucial role. It is advisable to prefer murtis made of organic and natural materials for example stone, marble, or wood, as it leaves a positive effect on the energy of the house. Murtis made up of synthetic materials such as plastic or resin are not good and recommended. 

Choose the right time

The right time to place the God idol in the home is also a vital step. As per the astrological belief, it is suggested to place the murtis during a favourable time such as in an auspicious tithi and time or in a religious festival like during Diwali, Navratri or Ganesh Chaturthi.
