Shiva Vaas and Rudrabhisek: How to Calculate the Tithis?
Shiva Vaas (शिव वास), meaning where Bhagwan Shiva resides at a particular time and what he is engaged in at that time. It is essential to know about Shiva’s Vaas (the exact location of his stay or the activity he is engaged in) before you plan a Rudrabhisek or any special Shiva puja. Usually, you perform Rudrabhisek for some special purpose and hence it is necessary to know if it is the right time to perform it. How To Find Out Shiva Vaas Tithi?
Shiva Vaas Calculation Method (शिव वास की गणना करने की विधि )
नारद जी के अनुसार —
“तिथिं च द्विगुणी कृत्वा पुनः पञ्च समन्वितम । सप्तभिस्तुहरेद्भागम शेषं शिव वास उच्यते ।।”
अर्थात्,
जिस तिथि के लिए शिव वास देखना हो उस संख्या को दोगुना करके जो आये उसमे पांच जोड़ें ।
जो संख्या प्राप्त हुई उसको सात से भाग दे दें ।
According to Devarishi Narad,
The date on which Shiva’s abode is to be seen, double that number and add five to it.
Divide the number obtained by seven.
अब शेष बची हुई संख्या के अनुसार शिव वास को जानें ।
Now know the abode of Shiva according to the remaining number.
“एकेन वासः कैलाशे द्वितीये गौरी सन्निधौ ।
तृतीये वृषभारुढ़ः सभायां च चतुष्टये । पंचमे भोजने चैव क्रीड़ायां च रसात्मके ।
श्मशाने सप्तशेषे च शिववासः उदीरितः ।।”
अर्थात्,
- यदि एक शेष बचे तो शिववास कैलाश पर जाने,
- दो शेष बचने पर गौरी सानिध्य में,
- तीन शेष में वृषभारुढ,
- चार में सभामध्य,
- पांच में भोजन करते हुए,
- छः शेष में क्रीड़ारत और
- सात यानी शून्य शेष रहने पर शिव को श्मशान वासी जाने ।
Meaning,
- If there is one left, then Shivvas should be in Kailash,
- In the presence of Gauri, when you get two as a result,
- Vrishabharudh, if it is three,
- Meeting in four,
- Eating at five,
- Playing in six and
- When there are seven, i.e., zero left, Shiva is known as the cremation ground dweller.
What is the result of performing Rudrabhishek as per Shiva’s abode?
(शिव वास कहाँ होने से क्या फल प्राप्त होता है?)
“कैलाशे लभते सौख्यं गौर्या च सुख सम्पदः । वृषभेऽभीष्ट सिद्धिः स्यात् सभायां संतापकारिणी । भोजने च भवेत् पीड़ा क्रीडायां कष्टमेव च । श्मशाने मरणं ज्ञेयं फलमेवं विचारयेत् ।।”
अर्थात्,
- कैलाश वासी शिव का अनुष्ठान करने से सुख प्राप्ति होती है ।
- गौरी-सानिध्य में रहने पर सुख-सम्पदा की प्राप्ति होती है ।
- वृषारुढ़ शिव की विशेष उपासना से अभीष्ट की सिद्धि होती है ।
- सभासद शिव पूजन से संताप होता है ।
- भोजन करते हुए शिव की आराधना पीड़ादायी है ।
- क्रीड़ारत शिवाराधन भी कष्टकारी है तथा श्मशानवासी शिवाराधन मरण या मरण तुल्य कष्ट देता है ।
Meaning,
- One gets happiness by performing the rituals of Shiva when He resides in the Kailash.
- One gets happiness and wealth when He is in the company of Maa Gauri.
- Special worship of Vrisharudh Shiva leads to the achievement of desires.
- Worshipping Him when he is meeting Devatas angers Him, hence, it should be avoided.
- Worshipping Shiva when He is eating is not beneficial.
- When he is playing, Shivaradhan (worship of Shiva) must be avoided, as it may lead to adverse results.
- And when He is in the cremation ground, Shivaradhan must be avoided, as it can lead to death or death-like pain.
What are the Tithis of Shiva Vaas and Where Does He Reside on Those Tithis?
- Pratipada of Krishna Paksha of any month, i.e., Pratham, Ashtami and Amavasya, and on the Dwitiya and Navami Tithi of Shukla Paksha, Lord Shiva resides with Maa Gauri. If you perform the Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva with the Rudrabhishek mantra on these Tithis, then you get happiness and prosperity.
- On Chaturthi and Ekadashi (Gyaras) of Krishna Paksha of any month and Panchami and Dwadashi of Shukla Paksha, Lord Shiva resides on Mount Kailash and worshipping Shiva with the Rudrabhishek mantra on this day receives the grace of Lord Shiva and increases happiness and prosperity in your family.
- On Panchami and Dwadashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha and Shashti and Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of any month, Lord Shiva rides on Nandi and thus travels around the whole world. If Lord Shiva’s Rudrabhishek is performed on these dates (Shiv Vas tithi), then whatever your wish is, it will definitely be fulfilled.
- Lord Shiva resides in the crematorium ground (Shamsham Ghat) on the Saptami and Chaturdashi tithi of Krishna Paksha and Pratipada (first), Ashtami, and Purnima dates of Shukla Paksha. He is deep in his samadhi on these tithis. If Rudrabhishek is performed on these tithis (Shiv Vas tithi), then there is a possibility of Bhagwan Shiva getting angry due to the obstruction during his Sadhna (meditation), and in such a situation, it may affect you adversely instead of positively, and you may even face a death-like situation.
- On the Dwitiya and Navami of Krishna Paksha and the Tritiya and Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha, Lord Shiva resides in the assembly of deities. On these (Shiv Vas tithis), he listens to the problems of all the Devatas. If Lord Shiva is invoked with Rudrabhishek on these dates, He finds it obstructive in his personal affairs as his work gets interrupted. So, Rudrabhishek on this day can bring pain and sorrow.
- On Tritiya and Dashami of Krishna Paksha and Chaturthi and Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha, Lord Shiva resides in the sports area as He is involved in sports. That is why one should avoid doing Rudrabhishek on these dates, because by doing so, your children are likely to suffer.
- On the Shashthi and Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha and Saptami and Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha of any month, Bhagwan Shiva resides in the food place and engages in eating. If Shiva is invoked with the Rudrabhishek mantra on this day (Shiv Vas tithi), then it causes obstruction in his eating and may not be a good time for the Rudrabhishek mantra.
